A statue representing Sirius, the only service dog to perish as a result of the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2002, has been placed in The Animal League of Green Valley (TALGV) memorial courtyard. Since that tragedy, it has been a goal of TALGV founder, Margaret Roesch, to honor Sirius, and, through him, all service dogs who have given their lives in the line of duty. Shown in this photo is Boyd Faulknor who constructed the brick pedestal for Sirius. The oval on the wall is an original work in tile by Leslea Johnson

Animal lovers across the state can show their support of companion animals and help fund spay/neuter programs by purchasing and displaying a companion With the help of the Animal Defense League's Carmine Cardamone and Arizona Representative Marian McClure, the Arizona Humane Society successfully lobbied the passage of the Companion Animal Spay/Neuter Special License Plate Bill through the state legislature. The Arizona Humae Society's lobbying effort was spearheaded by AHS Vice President of Operations and Animals Services, Duane Adams. For every companion-animal license plate sold or renewed, $17 will be deposited into a spay/neuter fund. These funds will be used by organizations across the state to pay for spay/neuter programs. Disbursement of the funds will be overseen by Governor Janet Napolitano's appointed spay/neuter committee, which is made up of seven individuals from around the state who are involved in animal welfare. Susan Wilson, HSSA President and CEO serves on this committee. For more information on plate availability, check www.azpetplates.org. |
