Howdy, I’m BUDDY and I’m an 8-year-old Lab/Shepherd mix with that comfortable, laid-back, “lived in” look. You may even think we’ve met before, and who knows…in another lifetime? I’m not reactive to other dogs, in fact I got along fine with my finder’s dog. I walk well on a leash and use the doggie door. I listen to people and try to comply with their requests, even though I might not always understand. Once I’m home, and YOUR Buddy, I’m sure we’ll communicate with each other just fine! Staying in a foster home is like a vacation! I miss my friends at the shelter, but I’m really enjoying the change. I need exercise, and I’ve always enjoyed my walks, but now I get L-O-N-G walks. I’m house trained, use a doggie door, love car rides, playing fetch and a good cuddle. I know the commands “sit,” “shake,”“down,” and “fetch,” and now “stay.” Then there’s “LEAVE IT.” I may be treat motivated, but with all of nature’s living creatures tempting me, that’s a hard one to obey. I should also tell you, cats are a no-no, but dogs may be okay. I’m still young and need a strong, confident person in my life to get me through the awkward stages. Home life can be good, but home life with you would be perfect.

I can be a little timid when we first meet, but if you’re calm and patient with me, I’ll warm up to you in no time at all. I’m very energetic and my attention is easily diverted, but I’ll respond when asked. At first when I went for a walk, it was obvious that I didn’t know what was expected of me, and as the walk progressed, so did my skills, (somewhat). All right! I admit it; I need leash training. I ride well in a car and I already know how to sit on command and use a doggie door, but more basic training is always a plus. I have a sweet disposition and all I really need is someone I can love and be loved by. It’s that simple!

I can be a bit timid when meeting someone new. It takes some patience for me to feel comfortable around you. Once I am, you will be pleased with the results! I’m easy going and I think you’ll find me quite affectionate. I’m not easily distracted, and I stay focused and attentive to my handler. I walk excellently on a leash and ride very well in a car. Someone called me a “plus size girl.” I have no idea what that means, but I’m sure it’s a compliment. It was also mentioned I need a firm handler. I not only “need” but also “want” a forever home. You may not “need” a dog, but I know you will “want” this dog…ME!

I am a medium-sized, young dog with a beautiful mahogany coat who is just coming into his own. My Labrador heritage gives me a laid back attitude whereas the Catahoula part of me is wary of unfamiliar people. When we first meet, I will hang back and check you out for a while until we become acquainted and, possibly, even best friends. The trainers here say that I am a smart fellow who learns quickly and that I respond well to corrections when walking on a leash. I tend to stay pretty calm even when the other dogs here run around barking excitedly. If you are an active person (or family!) with some patience to continue my training, let’s meet and see if we were meant to be best friends!

Even though I’m 3 years old, the way I act you’d think I was an overgrown puppy. Let’s face it, I love people! It doesn’t take much to make me happy. I enjoy going on outings (anywhere) and I look forward to going on hiking trips. Just remember, if I’m going to be outdoors for a long time, take plenty of water because when I get overly excited, I can get dehydrated. I’m good riding in vehicles and I also walk well on a leash but I’m easily distracted. I may be a big, affectionate boy but I’m stronger than I look. I definitely need a firm hand and my trainer highly recommends a well-fitted harness. I already know a few basic commands so it’s up to you to continue my education. I can’t wait to begin!
