Hi… my name is Vanilla Wafer,

My sister, Oreo, and I are known as the “Cookie Girls”, and not only because of our names: We’re sweet and bring lots of joy.  I’m the very shy one, but given time to get to know you, you’ll see the “Silly Nilly” girl I really am. I love to go to the TALGV play yard and sunbathe in the kiddie pools.  My volunteer friends taught me things called ‘car rides’ magically transport us to fun places with new sights, sounds, and sniffari walks. I’m learning that other dogs can be fun to play with, but again, I’m shy and they need to be patient and earn my trust. I must say, this ‘learning how to be a dog’ is certainly fun! I hope someone recognizes what a wonderful companion I can become – with time!

If you are considering adoption, please call TALGV office (520-625-3170) and make a date to meet me soon. Kennel appointments are between 10 and 2 every day.

Hi… my name is Oreo,

When I arrived at TALGV, I had NO idea how to be a dog, much less how to interact with people. Boy, have I come a LONG way! Not only am I making new people friends (hint: treats will win me over faster), BUT I get to go on these fun things called “outings” with my sister, “Nilla.”  We eagerly get in a magic transporter called a “car” which takes us to places to explore all the sights, sounds, and where we can collect as many “sniffies” as possible. Heaven! PLUS, I’m also making friends with other dogs – both on these outings and in the play yard. Now, I’m still a little shy, but time (and treats) will help you earn my trust. “Oreo” may be “America’s Favorite Cookie.” I just need to be YOURS.

Hi… my name is Fig Newton,

Adopted 10-30-24

My friends call me “Figgy,” and I’d love for you to, also. I might be a bit shy at first, but give me a little time and I’ll reveal my smart, obedient, and super fun side. I’m a Star Student of TALGV’s training program and know a bunch of commands which I’ll happily show you. Bonus! I have great leash manners to boot! My manners are so impressive, that you’d never guess I was rescued from the desert as a 6-month-old pup. Do you have another dog? Awesome! I’ve had lots of doggie pals and roommates. If you have a secure yard, we can play Fetch—I’d definitely win a gold medal if Fetch were an Olympic sport! You’ll be the real winner when you add my smart, loving, handsome self to your family!  (7-2024)

Hi… my name is Captain Crunch,

Adopted 4-8-23

I am a medium-sized, Shepherd-mix boy who was rescued with four other pups on a Tucson street. The only crime committed by this cereal gang: We were unwanted. (Oh, and maybe a little jaywalking.) Fortunately, some good Samaritans spotted us and brought us to TALGV for a chance at a better life. My volunteer friends say I’m small in stature for a Shepherd mix. They also say I’m a little shy—but that’s to be expected when you’re scared—and that I’m a sweet, mild-mannered fellow who could use some training in basic commands. Are you a patient leader who can teach this Captain the ins-and-outs of being your second in command? And can you provide some ‘crunch,’ too? If so, I’ll provide the love. C’mon, let’s hear it: “Aye, aye, Captain!”

Hi… my name is Jason,

Adopted with Daphne 5-7-23

Even though I was apprehensive when I first arrived at TALGV, I sensed my life had changed for the better. I know my gal pal Daphnie was nervous, and I was happy that we could offer each other support. It didn’t take long before I realized this was exactly where I should be. Now I’m making new friends, going for walks (I do quite well), and looking forward to finding my forever home. I’ve heard, by word of mouth, that I need to learn some basic commands. I can be affectionate, but I’m still a little shy…until I feel comfortable with someone. Naturally, being on the receiving end of affection is something I really enjoy most, but I’m ready to share the mutual “giving” and “receiving” with you when we get home.

Hi… my name is Daphnie,

Adopted with Jason 5-7-23

I’m a shy, intelligent Shepherd mix gal, looking for that special someone who’s patient and willing to earn my trust. I was in a foster home for a short time where I learned to obey house rules, and since I’m very “treat” motivated, I learn quickly. I understand the basic commands: “sit,” “wait,” “come,” “leave it,” “down,” “stay,” and “off.” I love chasing and playing with toys, don’t like loud noises, listen when told “no,” and ask to go out. I can share more about myself and answer questions, when we meet! I do have a roommate and enjoy his company. I could also enjoy your company! After accepting you, it will probably take a little longer to earn my trust, but once earned, I’ll be your loving and faithful companion for life!

Hi… my name is Ruby Dee,

Adopted 5-1-23

I was recently in foster care rehab following leg surgery. I’ve been encouraged to use my leg, which is more likely when I’m distracted, by walking and playing as much as possible. No problem! Occasionally I need to be reminded to walk on all four paws by saying “no knuckle.” I love being outside watching birds and chasing anything else that flies. I really enjoy tracking ants to see where they’re going. While in foster care I got along with the resident dog and one of the two cats. My leash walking may need work, but I’m potty trained (scratch at the door), crate trained, and good when left alone. I also know some basic commands. With these qualifications, and my loving personality, you must certainly realize that we belong together!
