I’m a happy and outgoing boy with discriminating taste when it comes to friends. If we become friends, I’ll lavish you with affection and seek the same in return. I walk well on a leash, checking in with my walker periodically, and although curious about dogs and other critters, I don’t over-react if they keep their distance. I’m perfecting “wait” and “leave it” behaviors, and would love your help in completing my repertoire of commands. It’s best if I’m the only pet in a home of active adults, who give me the attention and exercise I crave and need. I’ve walked well in the open desert, on trails, in parks and in pet stores. Let’s get acquainted gradually and discover if we can be best friends.

When I first arrived at TALGV I was under the weather for a while, then I spent time in foster, and now I’m ready for my forever home. While in foster, my “parents” gave me lots of love and attention. They were teaching me how to sit, wait, leave it, go potty, turn (spins on hind legs), and “go to your crate.” What I need now is a family who will continue my training! My leash training is also improving but loud noises, strange dogs and people still make me nervous. I really enjoy a peaceful and quiet environment! I’m very affectionate and I love to be close to my “people,” but I did become jealous of my foster’s dog. I would personally prefer being an only dog! Could I be your “one and only?” Please.

I think of myself as tall, dark and handsome. I’m quite the dude! I was found wondering at an apartment complex and luckily was brought here to the shelter. Not much is known about how I feel about other cats, dogs or kids. But I fit in so well here that I’d probably fit well anywhere. I’m an easy guy. Am looking for a human who can be patient with me as I grow into my teens (I’m 2 years old) and settle into my new environment. I’m friendly, confident and adventurous. I was found wandering around Madera Highlands and was fortunate enough to spend some time in my rescuer’s home. While there I met the other members of the family, a Bull Terrier, two Chihuahuas, and the 5-year-old child who gave me my name. We all got along very well. I myself am a young female Bull Terrier mix. I’m mostly white with black trim. Under my soft white coat there are opaque spots that I prefer to call freckles. I was described by my finder as being a gentle, affectionate girl who rides well in a car. Then I came to TALGV where I was an immediate hit with the volunteers. Now, all I have to do is to find a wonderful family that will invite me into their loving home. I’m ready!

So much for the great outdoors! That’s where I was living when an animal-loving lady rescued me, and I quickly joined her menagerie of cats and dogs. I was initially shy but found my niche sleeping by her feet in bed at night, cuddling next to her legs by the sofa, and playing with string toys. Since arriving here though, I’ve been keeping a VERY low profile and haven’t been presenting myself in the best light, but I’m betting anything that in my own home with my own person and no (or not much!) competition, my personality will shine as much as my beautiful coat. I’d be so grateful if you’d give me that chance!

What’s in a name? Star light, star bright, first star…. well, you know the rest. My name may be the start of a poem, but I’m wishing for a new start in my life. I was found roaming on a desert road on the outskirts of town. I’m an adorable, 1-year-old Dachshund mix female and I’m just the right size to be the perfect fit for anyone’s home, maybe yours! If you’ll come to meet me, I think you’ll find out that I’m very sociable and loving. I can be very playful and yet I can also enjoy a quiet cuddle.
