Not long ago, I lived in a home with other Chihuahuas, a cat, and our human mom and dad. But then everything changed. Mom died, and soon Dad was gone, too. The cat, other dogs and I came here, where we were all afraid. TALGV volunteers felt I was the most confident of the Chihuahuas, the one who’d step forward first, so I guess my sense of responsibility was showing. Even better, my new friends were soon complimenting me for being “very sweet,” too. I’m a 13-year-old female who can be active sometimes, and also quite content with quiet, relaxing times. When friends describe me, they often start with “little,” or even “very little.” That’s fine by me because it means I’m the right size to be a lap dog, which suits me perfectly. I love to snuggle with my friends. Oh, I can be an active little guy, but these days I’m especially grateful for kindness and comfort. After years of living at home with other Chihuahuas and a cat, our human mom died recently, and soon dad was gone, too. My siblings and I arrived here as very young puppies in desperate need of a safe place to be. Our mom was adopted after our person died, but no one wanted us. Until we came here. The TALGV volunteers became our best friends, giving us food, water, cozy sleep spots, and lots of caring attention. We’ve had fun playing puppy games, learning to go on walks, and even participating in “training,” a treat-earning activity that people seem to think is important. And now, we’re told, the best is yet to come. It’s called adoption, which happens when someone wonderful chooses you to love. I’m Tulip, a female puppy whose coat is black and tan with a touch of white, who’s eager to play, learn and love you back forever. Will you please choose me?

If you’re looking for a dog who is pretty close to perfect, I’m your girl! My foster mom says I’m an excellent walker, perfectly house-trained, and able to be left in the house when you’re gone without causing any trouble. I do need to be able to get on the furniture as I am a total couch potato, and I require regular belly-rubs, but I’m otherwise very low maintenance. I’m a great size, and I don’t seem to mind most other dogs, though I am not a fan of cats. If you’re looking for someone easy-going to share your heart and your couch, look no further than ME! As you know, dogs like to have a job. Right now, as an elderly dog living my golden days, my job is to tell you about fospice. If that’s a new word to you, let me explain. Fospice is a combination of the words “foster” and “hospice.” It’s a temporary home (I won’t be adopted) where end-of-life care and comfort are provided. That’s the concise definition, but the word means so much more to me. It means I feel love and tenderness every day, and I’m safe and important to someone. My remaining precious days may be many or few, but, whatever my future holds, I know this much for sure: I will not face it alone. My fospice person will be with me. And so for me, most of all, fospice means love.

Here I am again! I first came to The Animal League in a litter of kittens. Soon I was adopted with another kitten, and we shared our home with another cat, a dog, and our human. Something happened and I no longer behaved as I should, so my human brought me back to The Animal League. I was adopted again, but again I misbehaved so I was returned. I really appreciate the high posts of a cat tree, and I like to snuggle and sleep with my human. Perhaps I’d do better as an only pet with someone who could give me lots of attention.

CODY is a social and energetic 2-year-old, 80-pound black Retriever mix male who needs a new home. He and his littermate are not getting along now, but Cody would love a new doggy friend to play with. He is leash trained, crate trained, and house trained (asks to go out). Cody is in good health, up to date on shots and medical records are available. He has had rattlesnake avoidance training and obedience training (knows: come, wait, go to your spot, leave it, go around, off, and kennel up. He has been okay with cats with supervision; children are unknown. Cody likes to walk and enjoys truck rides… especially to get pup cups. He is an all-around good dog that would love to be your new best friend. There is no adoption fee. Imagine two little dogs tied to a stop sign under a piece of cardboard with the words “Free puppies.” Heartbreaking, right? Well, I was one of those sad pups, but that was many months ago. Today, I’m glad to tell you, I’m enjoying life as a happy and playful young dog with lots of friends. On my first adoption I was too strong for my former person, but she liked me a lot. She said I was kind, loving, and well behaved with people and dogs. (Not so much with cats.) Being here gives me the chance to learn more good-dog lessons and I’m having fun with other TALGV dogs and the volunteers, but I do dream of home. If I can belong to you, I’ll be your loving, loyal, and grateful dog forever.
