What a difference time and love can make! I was a tiny, lost, terrified baby, emaciated and dehydrated, found near Walden Grove High School. Now, fast forward to today and I’m a thriving, lively, every-day-is-fun Chihuahua puppy. My foster mom said I’m very dog friendly. She also thinks I spent some time with my doggie mom because I’d already been taught bite inhibition (something every puppy should know) and can read signals from other dogs. I’m still a bit leery of being picked up, so please approach that carefully until I learn it’s okay. Otherwise, I’ve blossomed into the delightful me—a 4-month-old, 13.5-pound female beauty, playful, happy, and open to new adventures, especially if they include being your loving companion forever.

Clouds really can have silver linings and here’s how I know: Along with another little dog, I was unceremoniously dropped off at The Animal League by someone who then left abruptly. As scary as that was, it turned out to be the moment my silver lining appeared! I was dehydrated and needed medical attention, and immediately those needs were addressed. What a relief to realize that so many people cared so much about me! And along with the important medical care, there was affection, a cozy bed, toys, and a seemingly endless supply of human kindness. Today, I’m a happy 1-year-old Chihuahua female, 6-1/2 pounds, with a tan coat and an adorable face, who dares to believe that there’s someone who will cherish me as much as I cherish them. I grew up with two other shepherds in outdoor kennels. Then Bailey and I were adopted together, and we learned how wonderful living indoors with people can be! But a human roommate became allergic to us and so we’re back, hoping for one more chance to belong to someone. I still take a little time to warm up to people I don’t know, but once acquainted, my sweet nature shines through; I love attention and will be very loyal to my person. Walks are great—I’m good on a leash, know some commands including sit and come, and was gentle and tolerant with three children in my former home. I’m a handsome 3-1/2-year-old male with a brown, black and white coat, about 71 pounds, and I bet we could be great together forever!

Rusty has earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate.
“Sweet, wonderful dog.” Big life changes (job and school) resulted in my person returning me to TALGV, but not before she wrote that nice description about me, and much more: “He let my young son crawl all over him. I’ve never seen him be aggressive.” And this: “Always friendly. Loves to go on runs/walks.” She said I barked when new people came onto the property, which can be good—especially because she added that I was “never aggressive.” Plus, she said I was housebroken. (One accident during the scary part of monsoon season.) Full disclosure: I’m a 2-1/2-year-old Heeler/Hound mix male and big favorite here because I’m such a loveable guy, albeit somewhat shy at first. And for me, it’s most important what you think. How about we meet and see if we match?

Child abuse doesn’t just happen to humans. I arrived at TALGV with a massive wound on my head and taken to the vet where they discovered that I’d also had a recently broken jaw. After months of treatment and recovery, I’m living with a foster mom (who thinks my injuries were inflicted with a shovel), and she says that despite everything, I’m a sweet, happy girl. I have sight and hearing loss on my left side and have some neurological damage (mom says that I’ll be “locked forever in a puppy world” as my learning curve is a bit slow), but I love people, get along fine with the resident dogs and cats, am housebroken, and am learning to walk on a leash, so everyone is hoping that I can find a super special person to give me lots of love and consistency in my life. If you consider me when you’re ready to “pay it forward,” you won’t be sorry!
P.S. Things you should know about me (from my foster mom): I’m hearing and sight-impaired on my left side. I have permanent neurological damage (sort of like a Down Syndrome child). My tail wags almost all the time. I didn’t used to know what toys were, but I’m learning. I’m learning to trust people, too. I go into my crate (my “safe place”) if I’m frightened. I’m housebroken (I go to the door). I like dogs and cats (especially dogs!). I’m a sweet, happy girl who gets along with all people and kids. I am getting better and better with leash training every day. I need patience and consistency and a “pattern” to my life.
And most of all: I need time and understanding and guidance and love.

Friendly and sweet, active and adventurous—I hope you like that combination because those words describe me! After my buddy Lobo (a Husky/Shepherd mix) and I escaped from their place, our people decided to bring us here so we could find a home where we’d be more likely to happily stay put. My former people said I was gentle and tolerant with children (ages 9 to 16)—indeed, they said I “love children”—and got along with other animals. I’m friendly here, too, playful, and enjoying the attention. They call me a Rottie mix female, but I have a slender build and weigh just 53 pounds at 10 months. These days, true to my sweet nature, I’m eager to be someone’s loyal and loving companion forever. Could you and I be the perfect combination?
