Animal League News

Hi… my name is Chubbs,

Adopted 11-17-17

When our people moved to an apartment, my pal Gorda and I couldn’t go along. But there was good news: We came here, where lots of people like me just for being a good dog. And I like them right back! Indeed, I’m always ready for your attention. If you’re busy, I also love chew toys and balls, especially the ones that squeak. My former family said I was gentle and tolerant with their 1-year-old, got along with other animals, and described me as “really kind.” And, by the way, Chubbs must have been my puppy name because now I’m 42 pounds—a very nice size for a 2-year-old Lab/Hound mix male. My coat is tan with a little white, and my sweet brown eyes tell you how much I want to be yours.

Hi… my name is Rusty,

Adopted 12-23-17

Rusty has earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate.

“Sweet, wonderful dog.” Big life changes (job and school) resulted in my person returning me to TALGV, but not before she wrote that nice description about me, and much more: “He let my young son crawl all over him. I’ve never seen him be aggressive.” And this: “Always friendly. Loves to go on runs/walks.” She said I barked when new people came onto the property, which can be good—especially because she added that I was “never aggressive.” Plus, she said I was housebroken. (One accident during the scary part of monsoon season.) Full disclosure: I’m a 2-1/2-year-old Heeler/Hound mix male and big favorite here because I’m such a loveable guy, albeit somewhat shy at first. And for me, it’s most important what you think. How about we meet and see if we match?

Hi… my name is Dana,

Adopted 9-3-17

You’ve probably heard that even among dogs, hounds are known for their exceptional sense of smell. So, since I appear to be a hound dog mix, maybe I was found near a store because I could smell dog food in there! (Like most lost dogs, I was hungry.) My rescuer kept me for two weeks while trying to find my owner, and she said I was okay with cats, good in the house, and leash trained. Once here, I was shy at first, but always sweet and glad for the company of people. A 1-year-old female, I have an athletic build (49 pounds), enjoy exercise, look good in my short easy-care coat, and please everyone with my good and gentle nature. I hope I’ll please you, too—in the happy home we share forever.

Hi… my name is Rosie,

Adopted with Fritz 8-30-17

Rosie comes with FREE Vet Care for Life

My doggie buddy Fritz and I have shared good times and, more recently, tough times. Our dear person became very ill and so after our goodbyes, we were kindly brought here, hopefully as our stepping-stone to a new loving home. I’m 12-1/2, Fritz is 11, and although neither of us runs as fast or jumps as high as we once did, we’re both still active for our ages—playing, making new friends, giving and receiving affection. Oh, relaxing is great—we can be easily entertained and each of us is well versed in loyal companionship. I’m a sweet, tan Hound mix female, about 61 pounds, and I come with FREE Vet Care for Life! So let’s meet soon. You may be pleasantly surprised at how this “mature” dog can very quickly catch your heart.

Hi… my name is Shiva,

Adopted 6-23-18

Shiva has earned her AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate & AKC Novice Trick Dog title.

People say I’m a super smart dog. Indeed, my former person said I’m the smartest dog he’s ever seen. He also said I’m “almost perfect 99% of the time,” but for that remaining 1%, well, I needed a trainer’s help. And the trainer agreed that I’m not the dog for just anybody, but for the right person, I’ll be a great companion. For fun, I learned enough tricks to earn the AKC’s Novice Trick Dog Title! And that came after earning the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen certificate, awarded for outstanding performance on behavior tests. I hope you think all that’s good, because I’m hoping it’s enough to earn what I want most: A happy, loving home. I’m a beautiful hound mix female, about 58 pounds, who wants nothing more than to be loved again.

Hi… my name is Caramel,

Adopted 8-23-17

I’m a beautiful, sweet, lovable young dog, but I was also a stray. When rescued, I had a scratch on my face. I’m fine now, wounds like that heal, but that scratch was a tiny reminder of what happens to dogs who are lost. Now that I’m a TALGV dog, I’m safe and well fed, but I’m still missing the best part of life: someone to love. When I go to sleep at night, I’m no longer afraid or hungry, but I dream of home — a place of warmth, love and happiness. I’m about 36 pounds, tan and white, a Hound/Shepherd mix female. The best part of me is beyond description—my loving heart, which will be yours forever when you take me to that wonderful place you call home.

Hi… my name is Ellie,

Adopted 7-1-17

A lady arrived to clean what she thought was a vacant house, but guess who was there? Two little dogs—Bernie and me! After that, we lived in a home with eight children and I was well behaved with those kids, but the landlord said it was too crowded. (Also, there was some trouble with dogs getting along, although we can’t say who instigated it.) In any event, this winding road brought me here and I’m pretty excited because friends say the next step is a forever home—a place full of love and happiness! Sounds perfect to me! I’m a tan 1-year-old female, 25 pounds, probably a Hound mix and definitely adorable. My legs are short, my body is long, and my biggest dream is a loving home with someone wonderful like you.

Hi… my name is Bernie,

Adopted 1-12-18

Give me a little time to get to know you and we could both be making a new friend. I’m a guy who was left abandoned in an empty rental home, and that rough beginning took its toll on my self-confidence. As a result, I may be “a lot of bark” when we first meet, but that’s all bluff and bluster. In a home environment, I can become my true self—relaxed, quiet, more than willing to share your couch. Shelter friends say I appear to be housebroken and definitely enjoy car rides. As for other dogs, I prefer females—they just bring out the best in me. I’m a slender, young adult Hound mix male, small to medium size, and if you give me a chance, I’ll be your happy, loyal companion forever!
