Animal League News

Hi… my name is Melo,

Adopted 2-11-17

After I’d been with them basically my whole life (almost 2 years), my people had to move to a no-dogs-allowed place. I was suddenly all on my own, feeling shy, even scared at first. Fortunately, my former people left some info about me. They said I was good with kids and liked other animals—I’ve lived with a Chihuahua and cats, love playing fetch and water hose games. And the best news for me? Turns out they like me here at TALGV! They say I’m a great dog who’s going to make someone a fun and loyal companion, which sounds terrific to me. I’m a handsome Staffie mix male, about 54 pounds, and you can see in my eyes how much I want to be with you. Could today be the day we go home together?

Hi… my name is Dexter,

Adopted 3-26-17

When rescued, I’d been living on the streets, which can be just as tough as it sounds. To the wonderful woman who took me in, it appeared I’d been abandoned, left to survive on mesquite beans, grass, and whatever else I could find. I was scared, hungry and tired, so that kind lady let me spend the entire week of Thanksgiving with her. I was such a happy camper! Then, because I need a permanent home, she brought here, where I continue to relish all kinds of creature comforts—living indoors, regular food, a soft bed, and the company of good friends. I’m an adorable 3-year-old blue-grey Staffie mix male who’s discovered how wonderful life can be! Why don’t you come meet me and let’s see how we can blend our happy futures together!

Hi… my name is Pilgrim,

Adopted 1-30-17

I was found wearing a choke collar but no tags, no ID of any kind. Well, without ID if you don’t count my exuberant personality, which my friends say is uniquely mine! I’m a 1-year-old handsome, well-built, tan and white Staffie mix male, who’s a bit more shy than you might see at first. Oh, I’ll greet you enthusiastically, jump, run around, and play like there’s no tomorrow! But when things get quiet and we sit down, even for a moment, you’ll notice I get a bashful look, almost afraid to hope that you might really like me. I’ve been lost and alone, so I need attention; maybe you can teach me the best way to get it. Give me a chance and a little guidance, and I could become the dog of your dreams.

Hi… my name is Calvin,

Adopted 7-26-17

Calvin has earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate.

When I was found in a grocery store parking lot, folks weren’t sure what to call me. So a DNA test was done, which showed I’m part Bullmastiff, Chow Chow, Staffordshire Terrier, Samoyed, and other mixed breeds. TALGV volunteers say I’m also part angel because I’m a loving, good sport, who walks well on a leash, likes to play, cuddle, just hang out with good people, or do whatever you ask (especially if you have cheese or a hotdog to share). To demonstrate my good manners, I earned the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen certificate, the gold standard for behavior programs; my vocabulary includes words like sit, down, stay, and more. I’m an easygoing, handsome (one blue eye, one brown), 3-year-old male, 72 pounds, ready to be someone’s loyal best buddy. Are you ready, too?

Hi… my name is Rocky,

Adopted 11-12-16

My name is Rocky, but friends say I could also be called Sweetie, thanks to my charming personality. I like that, and I like them! I’m a happy guy, especially in the company of good people. That’s kind of how I was rescued. Some people were hanging out in front of their friend’s house when I just walked up and joined them. They couldn’t keep me forever, but in the three days we were together, I was gentle with the children, ages 8 through 16, showed them I was leash-trained, and obeyed “sit,” “stay,” and “come here.” They described me as “sweet, loving, and well mannered.” I’m a 3-year-old Staffie mix male, about 73 pounds, strong and super nice. How about you let me make you happy, too, by being your ever-loving sweet companion.

Hi… my name is Frisco,

Adopted 1-24-17

I can be a very well-behaved fellow, and I’m also a lively, energetic dog who can play like there’s no tomorrow! My rescuer found me near a casino, just walking down the street alone. He took me home that night and gave me food and water; I was too thin when found, so his kindness was much appreciated. He said I was okay being with his shepherd mix dog, and already knew some commands, like “sit,” “paw,” and “lay down.” After coming to TALGV, I’ve enjoyed hearing the volunteers say my handsome appearance makes me look dignified, but please remember that I’m playful, too, and love to have fun. I’m an 18-month-old Staffie mix male, tan and white, 50+ pounds, who’s eager to give all the best parts of me to you!

Hi… my name is Patches,

Adopted 11-29-16

My person and I were together almost three years, since I was 2 months old, when I suddenly lost him. After his death, relatives brought me here, where volunteers have helped me understand the big change. Their company has meant so much to me, including the great back scratches they give. It helps that I’m a good listener; my many new friends can tell you that I always enjoy being talked to and petted. My person’s family also reported I know “sit” and “paw” (shake hands), will alert to strangers, guarded my food, and was gentle with a 16-year-old young person at home. I’m a handsome, leash-trained Staffie mix male, about 80 pounds, hoping my adorable face appeals to you because I’ll look at you with love every day if you make me yours.

Hi… my name is Mojo,

Adopted 11-5-16

Mojo has earned his AKC Canine Good Citizen certificate.

I lived with my former people for six years, but one of them has a medical condition and can no longer take care of me, so I need a new home. Despite being shy, I’m adjusting to the change. One secret of my success? Dog treats! Being “treat oriented” helps me connect with people. And with or without treats, I know what to do when you say “sit,” “down,” “stay,” “come,” and “shake.” Indeed, I’m so awesome in the behavior department that I’ve earned my Canine Good Citizen certificate! Human friends say I’m a very nice dog; my former people said I got along with their small female dogs and was best with children over 10. I’m a lovable 6-year-old Staffie mix male, 69 pounds, and I bet we could become best friends forever!

Hi… my name is Marlo,

Adopted 12-16-16

Maybe some critters are meant to live alone, but that’s not me! (As far as I know, that’s not any dog!) I love being with people and do my best to please them. When I was lost, wandering around the Helmet Peak/Mission Road area, I hoped every day that someone would find me and let me be their friend. Finally, someone did and took me to their home, which they share with four Chihuahuas! Since they were full up in the dog department, I’m now a TALGV dog, where they say I’m a very sweet girl, a good walker on a leash, and just plain fun to be with. I’m a 2-year-old, 50-pound Staffie mix female, a beauty in brown and white, and I promise to love you forever if you make me yours.

Hi… my name is Baby,

Adopted 4-2-17

Please don’t let those white hairs around my muzzle fool you. I was somebody’s baby 6 short years ago and now, since it’s a term of endearment for the sweet dog I’ve become, we can say I’ll be somebody’s baby again. But first, I must tell you the sad reason I came here. I’d lived with my person for six years, and then came the day when she passed away. Her family brought me here, confident that someone new would love me, too—especially since I’m so friendly, gentle with children, and well behaved off leash. I’m a happy, brindle and white female, a little over 50 pounds, who just wants to love and be loved. If you welcome me into your home, you can be sure I’ll welcome you into my heart forever!

Hi… my name is Lola,

Adopted 2-19-17

My brother, Chiquito, is a little bigger and braver than I am, but he assures me it’s okay to be shy—especially when you’re as sweet as I am. Granted, he’s my brother and loves me, but the volunteers tell me the same thing. Chiquito and I were adopted together; we happily moved to the country with our people, but we kept getting out. So we’re back at TALGV, knowing that we need close supervision when out in the yard and/or a dog-proof fence. I’m described as a “very obedient, good dog,” who loves chew toys, and knows basic commands like “sit, stay, bye-bye, and potty,” (though not all at once!). Every day, I dream of a wonderful life of love and comfort that’s given and received. Could you make my dream come true?
