Animal League News

Hi… my name is Lola,

Adopted 3-20-23

Having never been at The Animal League before, I am having challenges adapting. I used to live at another shelter where I tended to get overstimulated. We tortis are known to be feisty, right?  We call it “tortitude.” Since we have a lot to say, we meow our thoughts to you. We are not fond of rambunctious housemates, like kittens and dogs. Children also fall into that category. So the best environment for me is in a quiet home with lots of tolerant love. I need a human who will appreciate my attributes. (My tortoiseshell coat is beautiful, too!) Could that be you?

Hi… my name is Zoey (aka Gypsy),

Adopted 8-21-20

My mom adopted me from TALGV when I was eight weeks old, typically adventuresome and full of spunk. She already had two older cats, and although the male “tolerated” my hijinks, her female had different ideas about my kitten ways and maintained her own space. Well that was okay for a while, but as I’ve matured, I decided that I wanted to be top cat, so our relationship deteriorated even more. Being the new kid on the block, mom finally decided that I’d do best in a home where I was the only feline (I got along great with her neighbor’s Labrador though), so here I am again, looking for a human who is a torti lover (you know who you are — we’re BOTH special!). I respond to love and gentleness in my own way, so I’m hoping for a new life where it’s just you and me.

Hi… my name is Savannah,

Adopted 1-23-19

Comes with Free Vet Care for Life

Even though I lived with other cats all my life, I’ve decided that I want to be your “one and only” in the feline department! Despite what you might have heard about standoffish “tortitude,” I can be loving and affectionate when it’s just you and me. After mom went into a nursing home my life was turned upside down, but if you sit and spend some time with me you’ll see how much attention and petting I really crave. I’m a 15-year old lady who’s eligible for free vet care for life, so it sure would be grand if you’d take me home and let me get back to the important business of being your constant companion.

Hi…my name is Gypsy,

Adopted 4-8-18

Calling all you “crazy cat guys” out there (versus the usual crazy cat LADY)! For some reason I way prefer men to women so won’t you come check me out? Anyone familiar with the “big-eyed waif” art of Margaret Keane will recognize me immediately – and indeed a “waif” I was! A couple headed for emergency care saw me sitting by the side of the road and despite their hurry, scooped me up and dropped me off here on the way (thank you, nice people!). I think maybe because I’m so slim my eyes really do pop, but that just makes me all the more striking. Add to that my almost-black torti coat (there really is some orange in there!) and you have a girl who’ll knock your socks off.

It’s pretty obvious that my mom was fond of torties ‘cause she had three of us! And despite what you might have heard about standoffish “tortitude,” we’re all just as loving and affectionate as can be. Oh, we’re pretty frightened at the moment since mom went into a skilled nursing facility and our lives have been turned upside down, but just sit and spend some time with us and you’ll see how much attention and petting we really crave. I’m a 15-year old lady who comes with free vet care, so it sure would be grand if you’d take me home (maybe with one of my housemates?) and let me get back to the important business of being your constant companion.

Hi… my name is Sophia,

Adopted with Gracie 3-4-17

Sophia comes with Free Vet Care for Life

In my “first life,” I lived with my friend, Gracie, and a houseful of kids and dogs for seven years. Even then, we much preferred the older, quiet humans to the raucous “others,” and after they had to relinquish us, we went to live with a single, older lady and life was finally serene. Sadly, after our mom died, there was no family to take us in, so we’re both back again, looking for that “third time’s a charm” place (hopefully together!). I’m an affectionate, declawed “meeter-and-greeter” type who, at almost 14 years, will have free vet care for life (and offer a whole lot of “thank you” love if you take me home!). “Seniors for seniors” is my mantra, so why not let it be yours, too?

Hi… my name is Priscilla,

Adopted 10-20-17

Priscilla comes with FREE Vet Care for Life!

When my mom gave my housemate, Fluffy, and me to her friend when she moved, she thought I’d be able to stay forever, but the three resident cats immediately got their collective noses out of joint, so we only got to stay for a week. Since we’d lived with other cats and a dog before, Fluffy and I really tried to make friends, but it was just a “no go.” I’m a 12-year-old lady (so I come with Free Vet Care for Life!). My foster mom said that I’m on the shy side but loving nonetheless (that seems to be a trait of a lot of torties!), so I’d like to propose a merger, one that will yield great rewards for us both!

Hi… my name is Penny,

Adopted 2-27-17

I hear through the grapevine that there are quite a few stray cats out there days (we felines are supposed to be indoor only critters, ‘cause it’s a big dangerous world out there)! Well, I was one, too, but now that I’ve been rescued, I’m hoping I can find a nice, safe, loving home, and I promise that I’ll never want to stray again! As with all foundlings, it’s hard to know what kind of life I’ve led before, but I’m sure that in the future, I’ll let you know every day that I’m happy to be “off the streets” and hunkering down with you. At just 4 years old, I’ve got lots of livin’ and lovin’ to do, so let’s do it together!
