Let me tell you the best parts of being rescued: Regular food, shelter, safety, and, for me, top of the list is the company. Before coming here, I was lost and lonely. But now I have dog and people friends. Just being me—sweet and friendly—has made me a popular guy! Recently, a volunteer took me on an overnight-for-fun and I showed her more of my good qualities, like I’m crate-trained, not a barker, and when we saw javelinas on our walk, I ignored them. Sometimes I make a “growly” sound when I try to talk, snore when I snooze, and maybe you’ve noticed my great big smile. I’m a happy 75-pound adult Staffie mix male, and when you look in my eyes, I hope you see your next best friend.

My brother, Loki, and I were adopted as puppies into a family with small children, cats and dogs, and we got along with all of them! But now our family is expecting another baby and moving to a place with a smaller yard, so we’re each looking for a new home and people to love. I’m an 18-month-old male, light brown with a white chest, and an athletic build—somewhat slender but tall. My former family said I let the kids lay on me and even pull my tail; guess that says a lot about my gentle, generous nature. Sure, I can bark, but I’m basically a peaceful, welcoming guy; when the volunteers pet or brush me, I’m content. Could you and I make each other happy forever? I’m guessing the answer is yes!

My brother, Thor, and I were adopted as puppies into a family with small children, cats and dogs, and we got along with all of them! My former family said I loved to lie down on couch (who doesn’t?) and be petted. Well I’ve got to say a lot has happened to me in a month — lost, found under a porch, terrified by big dogs, arrived at TALGV, got poked and prodded a bit, and then spayed! Whew! That’s enough “action” to last a lifetime! But through it all, despite being understandably a smidge shy, I’ve loved getting ear and head rubs, and the attention (the nice kind!) from the volunteers has been great. Now I’m ready to find a place of my own (no more big dogs, please!), and let my personality shine. At about 18 months, I’m still looking for the kind of action I’m supposed to be involved in – playing and cuddling – so let’s get working on that!

There are distinctive looks, and then there are “whoa, where did she get those markings” looks! And as they say on late-night TV ads, “but wait, there’s more!” – all this beauty isn’t just skin deep! My mom had me all of my six years of life, so all this upheaval has been pretty discombobulating for me, but through it all, everyone agrees that because of my inherently loving personality, I’ll make the adjustment to a new home in no time. My mom’s friend said, “Emma is super friendly and affectionate, never bites or scratches people [well, I am declawed!], and needs to be near you – on your lap or by your side.” I just know life will be rosier for you and me both when we spend it together!

Brook

BROOK is a gentle, loving 2-year-old, 45-pound female Shepherd mix. She is a very sweet, people-oriented dog who was abandoned by owner. Brook is housebroken and will sit on command; she enjoys riding in car and walking on leash but needs more training. She is healthy, spayed, and is up to date on shots (medical records are available). Brook is okay with other passive dogs; cats and kids are unknown. Brook needs a home where someone is mostly at home; a fenced yard is recommended. There is no adoption fee. “A good girl, very friendly,” is how my former owner described me. Unfortunately, she also said I chased chickens, goats and cats, and she has all those animals. But let’s get back to my good qualities! In addition to being friendly, I’m leash trained, know lots of commands, and definitely know how to have fun—I love water, running, and playing with toys. Prior to coming here, I was living outside and somewhere along the line, my throat was hurt, so I have an unusual bark. I’m a 2-1/2-year-old St. Bernard mix female, 72 pounds, with a gorgeous tan and white coat, and you can imagine how much it will mean to me to live indoors in a comfy, loving home. If you make that happen—well, plain and simply, I’ll love you forever!

When I arrived here, I just sat by myself, sad and lonely. Then, after a few days, I realized things might be okay for me. I started going for walks, playing “find it” for treats (love that game!), and making new friends. As a rule, I’m cautious with new people (might growl when they approach); but my former family reported that I could be “loving with people I know.” For fun, I enjoy nice long walks and playing fetch, plus I’m good in the car and housetrained. I’m a smart 2-year-old black Lab mix male, 90+ pounds (did I mention the treat game?), and once we get to know each other, I’m a good and loving companion. My suggestion? We should get acquainted real soon because we could be happy together for a long time!
