On a sunny Saturday afternoon—another hungry day for me—a wonderful something magic happened. I can’t describe it exactly, but I was just searching for something edible, when suddenly a kind person was talking to me, and then presto—I was at The Animal League! They call that magic being “rescued.” And let me tell you—I like it. No more hungry days for me; here I have company, comforts, and pretty soon I won’t be as skinny as I was on rescue day. I’m a very handsome Collie/Shepherd mix, a nice medium size male, and as a 1-year-old, I’m still playful, energetic, with some things to learn. Shy at first, I’d love to show you how I warm up quickly, what fun we could have together, and why I’m the dog for you!

I came from a place with too many dogs, according to the landlord, and we were living outside. Perhaps it was that experience that made me a wee bit shy, but soon after arriving here, I started showing my true colors: friendly, sweet, and exceptionally kind. Here at TALGV, there was a shy dog needing to share a run with a dog who’d be good to her and so the volunteers chose me. We’ve gotten along beautifully and have lots of fun together because along with being good-natured, I’m playful, too. A nice size at 40 pounds, I’m a 2-year-old Lab/Shar-Pei mix female—a tan and white cutie with adorable ears (so they tell me), I’ll make a great addition to a happy, loving home. Let’s meet soon and see if we belong together!

My people gave me up because, they said, I’m “too much of a puppy for being 8 years old.” But from my perspective, that can be a compliment! I’m a senior dog with a young dog’s enthusiasm—I love life and people! Match that with the adult dog things I’ve learned and you have a great canine companion. (Here’s hoping you agree!) For example, I’m housebroken, leash-trained, know some commands, and will sleep in a crate if you like. In my former home, I was okay with kids, liked to play ball, and had no problems around the other animals I met. I’m a very sweet 26-pound Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix female, and if you’re okay with an 8-year-old who still enjoys the happy, fun times in life, I’d love to be your dog!

Since I recently had a kidney stone (which, I’m very happy to report has been taken care of!), I’ll need to be on a special wet-only diet with a balanced level of minerals for the rest of my life, but hey, you have to buy food anyway, so no big deal, right? “Dee is a happy spirit.” One of my TALGV friends described me that way, plus this: “She always has a smile with a ready wag of her tail. She loves to gaze into your eyes.” Aren’t people great? My friend is right—I am happy, especially around people because I love, love, love people! And I’m calm; sometimes dogs around me are barking up a storm and I just listen. As for exercise, I prefer average walks (not big hikes)—may I say, I’m great on a leash—and will be quite content to lie at your feet for long stretches of time. I’m a 1-year-old Lab mix female, housebroken, can use a doggie door, and always eager to please my person. How about we get together and see if “my person” should be you!

After my dad died, his former wife very kindly took me in, but her cat and I just never hit it off, so now I’m a 3½-year-old dilute calico lady in search of chin scratches, the occasional belly rub, a comfy lap, and maybe a big window or two that I can check the world out from. Having lived a quiet life with just my dad, it may take me a while to settle into a new home, but I promise that once I’m in a place where I can relax and learn trust again, I’ll be the loving companion I’ve always been. A few years can change a guy, ‘cause when I arrived I was frightened and intimidated by everyone (well, actually, just about everyTHING!). But with time and lots of attention from some patient volunteers, I’m seeing that the world isn’t the scary place I thought it was, and if you just take time to sit with me a while, you’ll find that I love brushing and attention. I’ve even learned to enjoy the company of other cats (my friend, Camper, and I are what, in the neighborhood, you’d call “bros”), so I know I’d be absolutely over-the-top happy in a quiet home where I (and maybe Camper too?) can find a new lease on life!

Unlike 99% of cats, I’m not big into head scratches. The rest of me however? Just bring it on! Thirteen of my friends and I were abandoned outside when our mom was evicted and although the neighbors fed us for a while, thankfully they were aware of the perils we faced so some of us got to come here. Although fun at times (my rescuer said I LOVED to roll in the dirt!), it was tough scraping by every day and having to snatch my own share of food, so it would be wonderful if I could find a place where I can watch the word from the safety of a window. I know there are lots of windows in the area that need filling, so why not let me grace yours?

I didn’t get the “big” part of my name because of my size I got it because I have a BIG heart, BIG love, and BIG personality! Thirteen of my friends and I were abandoned outside when our mom was evicted and although neighbors fed us for a while, thankfully they were aware of the perils we faced, so some of us got to come here. My rescuer said, “He loves treats and to be made to feel special because a lot of the others picked on him. He loves to be petted all over and gets so excited that he starts to drool!” I guess you could say I’ll be the kind of guy who’s all over you, so if that’s what you want, I’m your boy!

Hi… my name is Jonathan,

My siblings and I have been through some serious experiences—found as little babies in the desert, then some of us requiring medical attention—and now we’re all set for those just-for-fun adventures from the puppy perspective. Not that we’ve forgotten that puppies are supposed to learn stuff, too—things that are very important to our people, so we all need someone with the patience and time to teach us. If you’re one of those people, I promise to remain adorable as I grow and learn. We all appear to be a Chihuahua/Terrier mix and I’m the single male in this litter, with a handsome coat of tan and white and big brown eyes, weighing in at around 12 pounds. I am really bonded with my sister Gala so how about we meet, fall in love, and all go home together forever!
